Home sweet home :)
So I stumbled upon a article on myadsl.co.za today from 2007...

Vodacom's new data tariffs brings savings of up to 61%
By MyADSL, 10 March 2007

... and i have to wonder what happened to all the 'hype' of 2005 - 2007 about broadband pricing? vodacom still charge the same for their data as they did in March 2007? sure its now faster, but to msot people price is more of a pain than whether you can 'in a perfect world, if you camp under the tower' now download the mp3 in 2 seconds instead of 4 seconds....

Have we now accepted that the current rates is fair for all the providers to be charging? I was just wondering, as I really think its been far too long since any of them dropped any of their prices....

Personally I go along with the "school of thought" that we can forget about price reductions. Why would they reduce their income in a captive market.
What we will see more of is is getting better value for our money spent, like faster speeds, increased caps, etc.
We saw this recently with the move to 3.6mbs on their standard package and then data rollover. These last two offerings have not cost the networks in terms of turnover, which is a good maketing stratergy on their part. In fact I believe that they have scored thousands of new customers - some new and some from Telkom(ADSL) and other players.
Let's hope we are in for a better deal next time around. Face it, we are better off now than a few years ago - that's something positive.

I agree with the first post. If you dont buy data bundles then you are pretty much screwed. They need to lower the standard price. I personally will never sign a data contract that did not offer unlimited data for around one hundred rand a month, which they have in overseas countries. South african companies can gloat all they want about their world class broadband services but unless they start offering it at world class prices they can forget it.

yop +1

Seeing as how most people don't know anything and Rely on customer 'care' to inform them about what they should buy.

Its a grim situation for customers who are not familiar with internet standards.
