Is it possible to connect a notebook to a data projector but have the projected image AND the notebook screen working.

AS far as I know you can only have one work at a time using the Fn + LCD (F8) keys.

If your notebook has a dual monitor option then the answer is yes.

You want the LCD and data projector to display different images (different parts of the desktop)? Then as zeb said - set up your display properties (on windows, "extend my windows desktop onto this screen").

If you want them both showing the same desktop, but both active at the same time, connect the data projector and let it turn on and warm up. Then press Fn+LCD two or three times - it should cycle between LCD only, external only, and both. If not - get a different notebook!

+1 What SecretCode said...

Your laptop will/should have a "function" (Fn) key, usually printer blue, and either F8 or F10 (the one with the blue CRT/LCD printed on it) - press Fn and the F8 or F10 key a few times - the first usually ouputs to projector only, the second to both displays and the third back to the laptop screen...

What model laptop do you have?

I agree. I used to do this all the time at my old job, usually not a problem. However, some of the ancient Toshiba laptops I pressed back into service had a weird issue with resolution when dual screening. Only time I've ever seen that.
