Just got this SMS from Vodacom.

"Happy saving! Vodacom Broadband Standard once-off bundles will be replaced by the new 30-day data bundles from 7 Apr 14. You will instantly get more internet for less. T&Cs apply."

I also received this SMS from Vodacom. I am eager to find out what the new data promotion bundles entail.
On their website they still show the old promotional bundle prices which expire on 06.April 2014.

I dont think your assumption that the Data promotion has now been made a standard offering is correct though.

Nothing good about 30day bundles.... Worst of all the providers.... MTN is actually the best service provider for data in terms of expiry dates....

Indeed. It sucks.

MTN has something unique with their data expiry. You get 60days since the bundle is purchased to use it but if you buy a bundle again the data expiry date changes to 60 days from last bundle purchase.

So buy a 1GB bundle on MTN on the 1st of march and then you will have a expiry date of 1st of May if you buy for example another 1GB bundle on 30th April you will have 2GB expiring 30 June if you have not used the first GB.

Very cool from MTN so you can actually keep the data as long as you remember to buy a bundle before it expires to move the expiry date.

Vodacom is 30days from date of purchase to use if you buy more data each bought bundle has its own expiry date so use it or lose it.

I almost said I expected more from Vodacom… but I really didnt. This is after all the same company that expects you to drink your new milk first.

Time to shop around as I will no longer be able to use Telkom Mobile or CELL C *data network only without roaming on another network* as I am relocating and now it is time to shop around..

Any news on what the new data offers from vodacom are ? Their website still shows the current specials, yet the sms announcement was almost made a week ago of new pre-paid data price plans.

I can't see the new 30day data bundles in the *111# menu nothing seems to have changed there still under "promotional" option on the menu. I would have expected it to be under broadband standard once off and then it should ask you for 60 days or 30 days.

Now we are just a week a way from Vodacom's 'new improved' promotional bundles according to this thread (though I have certainly not seen any announcement anywhere, nor have I received the SMS some users apparently got), does anyone have any idea just what they will offer?

It's Official; the data promo prices are now permanent. But why does vodacom make us select so many options for buying data bundles? I have to dial *111# then select buy, then bundles, then data bundles, then once off, then for myself, then standard. I used to select like 2 options in the past to successfully buy data bundles. urgh.

Why does it have to expire if you don't use it? Is it like bread and go stale after a while?

That's how operators generate income. Just imagine buying a data bundle of 20 gig, to do general browsing with no streaming content - that would probably last you 3 Year's if you lucky
