Hi all. So my cousin (teacher) has a hard drive with her school work that is corrupted and needs a format.

I have used Minitool Power data recovery. It managed to find most of the files, it seems. The total files combined are around 9gb, however the tool only allows extracting up to 1gb on the free version, and charges $69 for unlimited.
Also tried Recuva, claims during scan to have found 7700 files, though at the end only provided a log file to be extracted, nothing else. Whether paid or not.

So, i dont mind paying for a tool, but not over a grand for a once off.

Can anyone direct me to a tool i can use to extract and not pay over R1000 for it, please?

Thanks for this!!! I backed up what i needed to my laptop, ran full sector and format against the external and copying back to the external now. Will also advise them to save to cloud!
But thanks again!

There are different opinions about different types of data recovery software and you could choose the best one based on your data loss situations. If you are talking about deleted files, the Piriform Recuva is good. (Recuva is completely free). However, if you are just talking about an inaccessible, formatted disk or system crash, then a paid recovery tool is required like iBoysoft Data Recovery, EaseUS, Stellar Phoenix, etc.

Based on my experience, iBoysoft Data Recovery and Stellar are very good software to tackle your problem. Abandon all hope about recover hierarchies and proper file names. With Stellar you can get gibberish in the folder and file names. And have to filter all info to see the extent of the recovery. I can share with you my metrics, based in my practice doing recovery work for me and others: Stellar can get between 85-95% of your data. iBoysoft Data Recovery is between 90-98%

So, you have a long way before you.....Good luck with the recovery....
