Data recovery software ?

had a big problem with a ruined mft table on ntfs recently.

used everything i could find, Hiren's, Parted, etc.

Someone told me to try TestDisk. First time I heard of it actually. so i tried it. And im typing this from the PC that wouldnt boot :)
