I have a huge problem. I have an 80GB seagte harddrive with my backups on it as well as music and photos. Well, I think the boot record is corrupted. In windows disk manager, I cannot add the disk as its a foreign dynamic disk. Whn I try and convert to convert to basic disk it says all my data will be lost! I seriously need help on this one!!! Any1 please!!:(

Second link gives some more guides and how to's, maybe you could import the disk ;)

Okay jannie, I need some more information to be able to help. What error did you get?

Also, what happened? Did you place the harddrive in a new pc, did you install new software, what happened?

I'd like to help, but the more information I have, the easier it is ;)

It says "operation could not be completed, check event viewer for more info" Then a second error comes up, "un unexpected error has occured. Check the system even log or restart pc"

Event logger gives no info, except that disk management failed

Hey Jannie,
Can you maby give me some details on how and when this happend?
Maby after adding new hardware or software?
A little background will help alot.
Thanks,
Cheers

Hi Fleroy,

What happened was that I had to reinstall Windows because of some problems I had. First I tried a repair install, but setup got stuck at 34mins where its installing the devices. I then proceeded do a fresh install with just overwriting the windows folder. What might have happened is that the system tried to boot from the second hdd and corrupted the MBR. I cant add or activate or import the drive. It has vital info on it that I realy dont want to lose. I used from demo data recovery software and it showed me that all my data is still there, the drive is just not accessible. I have tried so many things, but to no avail. I would really appreciate some help. I would even pay to get some proper advice.:(

If you are in Durban I would gladly assist you with the data recovery.

If that data is highly important to you, I would not suggest you try recover it yourself unless you are skilled at the process.

If you're not in Durban, rather take the drive in somewhere, I'm sure some of the members here can help you in person or suggest a suitable place to take it to.

Demo showed my data which was recoverable.
Then I got the full version to save it.
At least it gives an idea what data can be recovered.
