I have 2 phones on my contract. One has always got loads of data left over at month end which I lose.

I see lots of adverts on the web re "don't waste, transfer" yet it will not work.

Have 2 phones registered already as data share beneficiaries, one is my other contract phone and 1 is a PAYG phone.

been into MTN branches but they are all confused......

Try *141*0#, select Option 5 "My Account", then Option 3 "Manage Bundles", then Option 3 "Data Share", then enter the number and confirm.

That is how I do it, I had to call MTN first to activate data share on my primary number first so I can share the data with the secondary number

Second option 3 is , add number, remove number, purchase bundle......???

Select add number. Not sure why it would say remove number if you haven't set up a data share yet.

That phone has 2 numbers added.
Option says 1. Add number.2 . Remove number3. Purhase bundle.
No mention of transferring data?

Data share works differently. The data you use on your primary phone will be deducted from the second sim which the data share is activated. Even if your primary has a 0MB data balance, the data will all come from the sim with the data.
Its similar to that of the telkom integrated sim but across sim cards instead

With new rules and hopefully some progress in MTN 's honesty, any idea if I can transfer data yet between 2 contract phones ?

I added my mom on my data share and both phones are on contract. However I want to disable it, she's manage to go through my data and depleted it and there is no way on the interface at least to limit how much to share. I'll have to phone and find out what is possible.

Try the mtn app for activating and deactivating datashare

Also note you cannot datashare
1.any promo data
2.if you have a dual/2nd sim setup(you can however be a beneficiary of a datashare bundle)

So its not possible to share a part of the databundle so I removed my mom as a beneficiary. I cant find any options to disable datashare though and Im not going to phone MTN again to get it sorted. At least my data wont be depleted.

Currently, no you cannot part share or limit usage. Once another mtn sim is linked to your datashare bundle, they have full access to the total available data on that bundle. Once the host data bundle is depleted, linked sims start using their own data bundles and once that is depleted then their own airtime.

Note you are only sharing your data bundle with linked sims, so they dont have access to your rand value airtime or contract usage limit.

Bear in mind that once the host bundle is depleted you, the hoster, will now be charged data usage from your airtime value or contract usage limit at OBB rates of R2/mb.
