Do anyone of you guys know where I can get a data sim card - prepaid card?

Someone shown me a data sim card, which he uses to connect with an edge modem to MTN, and apparantly it costs 19c/mb, speed of 460bps... something like that.

Autopage/mtn/vodacom doesn't even know what a data sim card is - they only talk about 3G cards...

can anyone help me please. thanks.

A data sim card?... I guess what you're wanting is a normal sim card that has been data enabled...
Simple as that really - you just need any sim card, phone customer care and ask them to data enable it.

Of course then you need a data card or a cellphone or a usb modem of some sort to connect your pc to the net...

19c a MB is way off the mark though...
Generally prepaid data is R2.00 a MB - on Vodacom and MTN...
Unless you buy a data bundle... prepaid data bundles are currently only availble on MTN and the best price you'll get resolves to 49c a MB on a 1 GB bundle at R499...

EDIT: Oh and anyway even if it was 19c a MB, what could you really do with a connection running at 460bps???
460bps = 57.5 bytes per second ... it would take an hour to download 200KB

No, its definitly a data simcard - its not voice activated, only data. and maybe its the reason why it is cheaper than the normal R2/mb.

Sorry my term was wrong, if I want to express the speed in bps, then it should be 460,000bps - extremely fast.

And yes, you need a gprs modem for it, this case an edge modem.

:)

While on the sim card topic, can anyone please explaine to me what difference a 64mb sim makes vs 32mb sim when connecting to HSDPA?

AFAIK - NOTHING

I had Incredible Connection INSISTING that I had to buy a new 64K Sim before they would swap my 3G card for an HSDPA one but they could not tell me WHY this was required OR WHAT would happen to the couple hundred Rand "PrePaid Airtime" I had on the 32K card

Correct me if I am wrong here V3G.
