As if it is not bad enough that Vodacom is stealing airtime, the are also stealing prepaid data.
I have now had it with this bunch of thieves. They always pass the buck as if to say the customer is guilty.
How long has it been law that remaining data should be carried over for another month?
Yet, they prefer to steal it!!!

And it often is in my experience, people phones doing whatever many GBs whatsapp backup or photo sync or whatever.

Anyway, so what happened is your data failed to roll over? What type (weekly? daily? montlhy?) of bundle and size was it? When did you buy it?

No, i know exactly how to manage my data - NO unessecary background data usage.
However, no matter on which date or how much you purchase, it lasts only for 30 days irrespective of how much is left over. Some months i have enough left over to last for the next 30 days, after which it will obviously expire and i have to purchase a new bundle.

Don't tell me no, I was just saying what happened in my experienced, I was saying nothing about YOU and YOUR data, I was just commenting on the comment you put out there.

Sorry, no disrespect intended - just a manner of speaking. Thank you for the feedback, however.
Sure is frustrating to throw away money and such a huge company (Vodacom) consists of so much incompetence.

Imagine a world where you go to Checkers and pay for an entire loaf of bread. After 5 days you still have some bread left over, so they come and take it away forcing you to go back to them and buy another bread at full price. Stop imagining friend, for I would like to introduce Vodacom to you...

Hahaha.... Exactly so.
However, what is the best alternative seeing that the data is only used outside of my home to accomodate connectivity for WhatsApp and emails?

I'm in exactly the same boat as you. I'm currently buying a 30 day bundle with roughly what I need for the month (while not connected to wifi), so when I do get to the end of the 30 days, the amount of data left over is hopefully not that much or you just get another bundle when you run out before then. In a perfect world you would be able to use all of the data you paid for, but alas such witchcraft is not possible in 2020. It all comes down to $$$ and the profit they make. Same goes for all the illegal WASP subscriptions they allow on their network. I would rather die than sign up for a cellphone contract again.

@livw88, that is why i only had a contract with my first "cellphone" way back in '95 - can just imagine how much they steal from contract customers...
I dial *135*997# once a month and just select "clear/block" in order to get rid of possible WASP services - just in case...

I personally got a dual SIM phone and a R139pm 10GB contract from Telkom, if I don't use the data, so be it, it does roll over 1 month and I have the option of sending up to 1GB per day (up to 10GB max per month) to someones elses Telkom number.

@supersunbird, i also have the option of adding a second sim. This coming weekend, i will be getting one and using that for my data.
Thank you for the advice - never considered that alternative.

Pleasure, I got really cheezed off when Vodacom removed their roll-over 30 day data, and just kept the cheaper 30 day non roll over data a few years back, so have not brought data for my prepaid Vodacom SIM since then, enjoy getting R0 you greedy @vodacom bastards.

That's EXACTLY what happens. It's called an expiry date

The expiry date counts when you keep to the law i.e. remaining data SHOULD carry over for another 30 days. My question is: Why does the other providers keep to the law?
South Africans are fed-up with corruption!!!

I get that there is an expiry date, my question is WHY? We are talking about virtual 1's and 0's floating around in cyberspace, not apples and oranges that go vrot after a while. Greed, plain and simple.
