Hi,

I've got 3G with a 1GB cap and thought I'd try my hand at Quake III online. How much of my cap would I expect to use? :/

Thanks

I had a 1gb cap when i first got adsl...let me tell you. 1gb is not as much as you think it is.

U can probly play a while but dont get to attached to your online gaming.

O btw...do they still play Q3 online here?

heh

good luck
i know people that play wow over their cellphone gprs thing, so quake3 should work.. u gonna get nailed by latency tho. and yeah those guys who play online quake are GOOOD, so yeah very best of luck to u.

That bad? :/ What the pings like?

Would depend on where the servers are located. I dont know about the quake ones, but some servers that I have played on in europe (CS, WoW etc) are usually around 450-500ms

Ouch ... the game is slightly unplayable then :/ Last time I used play with my old Megawan connection I'd get 30ish pings which was awesome.

So in MB ... Quake 3 for 1hr ... 50MB?

Nah, would be allot less. 30mb at the most.

If you play on servers in SA your ping can easily be 50ish Dolby. Its just the international ones which are a problem. I get around 30 when I play on SGS CS servers. Its location location location :)

These guys are just scaring you.

a 3GB package can give you a month worth of serious gaming.
So 1GB will last about 10 days. Depending on time and what your playing.

Also things like TS could grately reduce the amount of your allocation rather quick.

Kepp it simple and you'll go rather long on a 1GB. I would honestly suggest a 3GB. But use the 1GB on your current usage and see how it works for you.

;)

1GB is more than enough for a month of online gaming for me. I barely use 1/2 of that when playing GW... and I play a lot!

Like others have said, bandwidth usage all depends on the game.
FPS games use more bandwidth than RPG games in general.

3GB is nice to cater for the odd content release though ;)

Gaming :)

Hi,

How much data does game spy arcade use then? I'm interested in playing Heroes 3 (or 2) There, and perhaps Starcraft as well,

Can anybody tell me around how much data I would need for some hours with these games? Since its relatively old styled games, I hope its not too much.

Thanks,
Hexsist

Sometimes when I'm on MTN at night, it gives me free net access, I don't know why ?:)

But one time, it happened to me, and I instantly fired up my copy of Deus Ex GOTY Edition and played some online, I, must say the HSDPA card isn't all too bad for online gaming..

Owned on certain games, and I didn't even use a 3G sim with that..

Too bad I didn't chek my data usage afterwards, otherwise I might have figured this out by now lol

Thanks!

Unless you have a really good signal Dolby, things arnt looking too good with regards to ping

But join these servers and try it out:
kalahari.mweb.co.za:27960
kalahari.mweb.co.za:27961
kalahari.mweb.co.za:27962

Or get a proggie called The All-Seeing eye
It lists game servers for games that are installed on your pc

If the game you are playing claims to work on dial up you can expect to use at most 20MB/ hr of play. If you can play on local servers (generaly M-Web and Saix) your ping will be much better, around 200ms on dial up, maybe better. The most important factor I think is consistent ping. 200ms is not terrible if its always that, whats a real pain is when the range is 30-300ms or worse (often the case in wireless)
