Data usage horror

If they tell you a 7gb file was downloaded then ask them to prove it. No updates, not even Windows updates, can amount to 7gb, even if you skipped 10 years worth of updates....
My wife's phone "downloaded" 4 gigs of data according to these crooks. The kicker, the phone only has a 1 meg memory card. Reasoning doesn't help with them!

edit: oops, meant 1 gig

Nashua Mobile is a *** experience, one way or another and I have and will continue to urge people to stay away from them.
As per my post above I went through this. THey told me they do NOT log the IP addresses of sites you visit. It makes no sense!

Whom is that response from? VC or NM?
RICA wise, there's no way that VC isn't tracking your/our IP logs - pretty sure that there's a legal requirement for this.

And I know for a fact that 8ta do, cos my friend that works there could tell me all about my seedy browsing - but not give me any free data :p :D

EDIT: As far as getting IP logs - I think one could go to Vodacom directly or lay a charge of theft or something and then supboena the IP logs.
Quickest way though, would be to PM VodaData here in the VC forums.

This is why my 3G is always turned off unless in use.

I offered to take my tablet in to Nashua Mobile so they can have a look at it and see if I downloaded the data but they said that it won't help because smart devices are always on and always uses data and they won't be able to see.. doesnt make sense.
I don't have a data log on my tablet to see what used the data last month. It only shows this data usage cycle. Or maybe I just dont know where to look.

Tethering to a PC can also amount to that

What tablet is it? Android will show you how much data each app downloaded. Not sure about iOS.

So the lesson is have your main number on prepaid. I'll still sign up for a new contract to get a subsidised phone, but I'm very careful with the sim card from those contracts. I switched to prepaid for my main number three months ago and I'm really happy and have saved a bundle too and if I have any trouble with Cell C I don't have to wait two years to switch networks.
I've always maintained that Nashua and Autopage are terrible mobile service providers (and I think there are hundreds of threads about their service) - always go directly with the network, now instead of dealing with one company when there's a problem you have to deal with two.
And those 'bill limits' are an absolute lie, I experienced the same problem with MTN with my Blackberry a few years ago when I received a R1200 bill (despite a limit of R300) because my new phone wasn't connecting to BIS for data.

Perhaps wifi tethering was on, and someone connected to it and gorged themselves in free data (well to them)

The OOB-Shark strikes again! Still I see no traction on Nashua's part to implement some protection for their customers, nor have I heard of anything significant on Vodacom's part since Jannie's promises that it would be addressed. Unless I missed it...?

Ironically I was on their site at the same time as reading this:

Important Notice:
To protect our customers against excessive charges, we have implemented a call / spend limit of 3 times the average monthly usage amount, calculated based on your past 3 months usage. Please contact our Call Centre on 0861 412 412 for further information.
