Will never happen. Perhaps it could get cheaper, but never ever ever free. This guy needs to learn to save whatever he was smoking for after the speeches and not before.

deapend on what free means

as webafrica afrhost etc,already offer free data (1gb)

so you can data for free already

even if somehow they offer free uncap,it will be so slow u can only use 1mb in 24hours

line rental,prices are coming down price per MB ,but that will NEVER be free
 
Extrapolating the downward trend in prices to the point where it becomes free. Why not just continue the extrapolation and they will be paying us to use data.
 
I seems to me that you guys are not understanding what he means. He isn't saying access to data will be free, but rather that data itself will come free as part of a package. E.g. line rental + data or TV + data. For instance you might pay R500 for line rental, and then after that nothing for the actual gigs you use.

Once wholesale data prices drop low enough to provide the average user with net for a month ( say 100-200 gigs for R50), then it makes sense as a provider to throw that data in for free with other things you can charge more for. Perhaps fiber line rental, something like netflix, or 500 gigs of drive space in the cloud, etc.

rofl, you silly u dont understand, you will still paying for the data even if it part of package. so at end of day its not free.
, just being fooled into thinking you getting it for free.

Of course it can be free. If FNB charges you R100 for X(banking services a month), but then decides to give you X + 100gigs data for the same R100, then the effective price to the consumer for those gigs is R0.

R0 = free

The only way you can argue you are actually paying for it would be to say without the free extras they could reduce their prices by that amount, but then it could also be argued they are subsidizing the free stuff by reducing their profits margins.

thanks for writing it for me ;) ;) cross subsidizing lower/give away for free there, but in other services here and there raise the price a bit in that way you can save profit.

Incoming and outgoing data may be consumed under a gratis model, however the respective mediums requires maintenance, contingency, upgrade scheduling etc. You will always pay to have capacity and access, this isn't a 'local' network.

It's actually a good marketing trick, free phone , free router, free decoder all seem to work so well.

Turns out he's not bad after all.
