We've been struggling with Datapro's uncapped static ip offering for weeks. The main problems are periods of high packet loss, slooow throughput and frequent unannounced outages. Yesterday morning between 00:30 and 05:00 there was just no connectivity at all.

Datapro's support is also consistently unhelpful, usually denying there is a problem and telling us to reboot our router, until you prove the problem and then variably passing the blame to either IS or Telkom. They keep on telling us that there is a problem with the static ip service but we can't pin it down to IS or Telkom.

Does anyone know what's going on? We suffered through the IS/SAIX/UUNET peering debacle last month, and now this!

I think the main problem is that there are alot of players and nobody wants to take the blame

Telkom network outages often never get reported but IS did have a problem with their adsl last night (not sure when or for how long)

And then it is always possible that datapro broke it....;)

Datapro international connectivity has just gone down. I cannot work like this anymore - are there any broadband providers out there who are prepared to offer a decent SLA agreement? As I see it, half the reason why we are in this mess is that all the providers are more concerned about their AUP's than SLA's. Probably due to the uncertainties Telkom creates, nobody is prepared to offer a solution with an SLA, because they have no control over the ultimate backbone carrier in the country.

I reckon all the major independent service providers should gang together and *demand* an SLA from Telkom and then when, for instance, Datapro buys connectivity from IS, Datapro should *demand* an SLA from IS. This would be the only way to get away from the current "cowboy" environment where everyone is indemnified when there are problems and the finger is always pointed at the next upstream provider.

Only SLA you will get in SA, would be from diginet :/
