David Forbes' murder case resumes today

Music festival promoter David Forbes is back in court on a charge of murder today.
He has pleaded not guilty and maintains he acted in self-defence when he shot dead 23-year-old Toufiq Joseph last year in Gardens.

The shooting occurred near the Orange Street Engen garage in January last year.

Forbes, 48, claims he shot Joseph four times after he was attacked with a knife.
The motive for the confrontation has not been confirmed.

The matter was previously postponed to allow the defence time to study the docket.

The defence in the murder case against music promoter David Forbes has requested it be given the criminal record of his victim.

They claim the Hout Bay businessman had reason to fear Toufiq Joseph and his family when he gunned down the 23-year-old last January in Cape Town.

Forbes’s defence claims the State has not complied with its request for further detail relating to the murder docket.

They say the State has refused to hand over Joseph’s criminal record and that of his immediate family, including his parents.

It previously emerged in court that Joseph was out on bail for murder and robbery at the time of the shooting.
