David Kan, is the co-founder and major shareholder of Mustek, and its CEO since the Group's inception in 1987. He holds a BSc (Eng) degree, with a major in mechanical engineering.
Mustek was founded by David Kan, son of former Taiwanese trade consul CC Kan. David Kan arrived in South Africa in 1986 after completing a BSc Engineering degree in the US.
The following year, Kan set up a small computer factory employing 10 people in a decentralised zone in Garankuwa, 50km north of Pretoria. It assembled PCs for other computer companies.
Two years later, Kan established his own PC brand, Mecer, and later opened assembly plants in Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth to improve delivery, support and services back-up.
