David Maynier

David Maynier is a Member of Parliament and Shadow Minister of Defence and Military Veterans for the Democratic Alliance. He was born in Cape Town and matriculated from Grey High School in Port Elizabeth in 1986.

After matriculating, David completed his 'national service' as a submarine officer and navy diver in the South African Navy in 1989. He spent the next two years traveling through Israel, United Kingdom, Europe and Russia before returning to begin his studies at the University of Cape Town in 1992. David majored in politics and economics and graduated with a Batchelor of Arts (Honours) Degree from the University of Cape Town in 1996.

He joined the party's professional staff after leaving the University of Cape Town where, over the next couple of years, he held several senior staff positions including:
  • Deputy-Chief Executive Officer and Campaign Manager in the Western Cape (August 2008 - April 2009);
  • Director of Fundraising (February 2005 - June 2007);
  • Assistant to the Chairperson of the Federal Executive (June 2004 - February 2005);
  • Chief of Staff to the Leader of the Opposition (August 2000 - June 2004);
  • Director of Research (May 2000 - August 2000); and
  • Researcher (August 1999 - May 2000).
