I cannot wait until the new consumer protection act comes into effect.

Have been a subscriber with Autopage for 8+ years and currently have five months left of my current two year contract. Been considering upgrade options and I just enquired as to any termination fees if I cancelled ... R4,245

Covers R2,000 in handset fees and all five months of service. I am seriously considering waiting out five months and cancelling just to stick it to them on principle and I hope many others do the same to their service providers. These guys need to be screwed for shocking business practices.

Rant over.

Strange that they didn't add an early cancellation penalty to that amount.

Dude why are crying? You signed a contract. See the contract out and be rid of them. The CPA wouldn't have helped you too much here. We know (at least I hope) what we sign up for, so why cry?

I don't think the CPA would help you. You signed a contract with them that you would pay Rx to them in return for x over x time period.

example:
If everyone got say an iPhone 4 from them on contract and then wanted to terminate their contract a few months in they wouldn't recuperate the costs of the iPhone and would be losing on the losing end of things...

I agree that the CPA wouldn't help me now. What I do disagree with is having to pay for services that I am not using by cancelling.

That's where my mind is right now.

Obviously. If you take out a contract and cancel a week later and want to keep the phone, you should have to pay for it but you shouldn't have to pay for 23.75 months worth of service you're not getting.
