Hey all I want to convert my garage into a servant quarters and would just like to know if this is possible. The geyser is running on solar so so that breaker is permanently off. The stove breaker is also permanently off since I switched to a gas stove. The plugs breakers are as follows Plugs1 is running the kitchen the living room, 1 room and the garage. Plugs2 is running the 3 remaining rooms. I was wondering if I could wire the garage to the Geyser breaker to take load off of the Plugs 1 breaker and maybe wire The stove breaker to another outlet socket in the garage to spread the load out? I have no electrical skills but will get a certified company to do it, is it a hard job and what would the quote more or less be ? Thanks in advance

Yes you can

You just have check that the breaker is suitable size for the wire

Which it should be normally geysers are 2.5mm² wire

And plugs too

Both using a 20A breaker

So shifting should not be a problem

If for some bizarre reason the wire is perhaps 1.5mm²
Because they only catered for lights and one plug with low load

Then the breaker would be too big and needs to be changed for a smaller amp rating

It should not be but hey people sometimes do funny things

Just do double check that the neutral is in the correct place if using a breaker that wasn't on solar and now will be on solar

ie the neutral gets separated pre inverter and post inverter with solar installs

So if you just move the live wire and the neutral happens to be pre inverter then the RCD can have nuisance trips

Thank you so much @leon.davibe I appreciate your response. And true when I bought the house wires were stripped and cost me a small fortune to rewire. And thank you for pointing out about the breaker and wire gauge I will get someone certified to do it, me and electricity isn't friends lol

Now you have lost me lol 😅 all I understood was inverter. All I know is that the guys that did the install said nothing of the geyser is connected to the power. Where or how it's earthed I do not know, my electrical knowledge is limited to changing bulb fittings and extension lead repairs 😅. I will screenshot your message and show them to check that.

Not to argue as I dont know the regulations but I thought 4mm cable was the standard for a geyser?

The biggest geyser at most would be 3.5kW, that's 15A, 2.5mm2 is good for just over 22 or 24A I think.

So I also don't know the regs but my logic tells me 2.5mm2 will work just fine for a geyser.

no idea what latest regulations are
so you may be correct

as far as i have it 2.5mm is fine for geyser as that would be approx
18A with a 4kw
and less with lower rating elements

i know the stoves are normally 4mm

just thought to mention to check wire gauge

if the geyser has 35A 4mm setup like stoves
then the 2.5mm wire can be overloaded if used on that breaker he would have to replace the breaker too
