I'm not sure whether anyone can assist me but it's just that I'm used to eMule , capped and keen to try something new... I thought I'd start experimenting with DC++ ... at the moment I'm getting speeds less than 8kB/s ...are there any tweaks or port forwarding I need to do te get ADSL speeds or at least maybe something close to 20kB/s I'm on a 384k connection? ... Please help ...

hopefully you've sorted it out. It does seem to vary from user to user as to what speeds you can get. But make sure your settings are correctly set.. for instance 'active' mode..
Im on iburst and capped, and seem to get/send at anywhere between 8 - 18KB, which is fine, sent around 3.6 gigs since yesterday. I dont see why the Hubs locally should be 'for iburst or adsl users only' - as the more the merrier.. so feel free to join ibust.kicks-ass.net and lurk and ask folks, and tweak your settings that way..?

Yes the best is to use a local hub. I use StrongDcc++ and went with dnsservices to keep my Ip updated. This way I am an active user and not passive. Active users can dl from both passive and active users whils if you are a passive user you can only dl from active users. Also when you are active you can dl a file from more than one user at a time which is a big help when it comes to your connection speeds. If you need any more help feel free to pm me.

Also remember the way DC++ works: A user with 40K upload and 4 slots gives 10KB/s per slot, if everyone can handle that much. Solution: Download more files ;)

:o ... thanx a lot guys .... I certainly got it working, maybe it was this passive setting it was on ... but I did indeed experince improved speed afterwards highest constant speed was about 30kB/s so I think it's fair to say it's working out .... :D. Do hubs have a limited number of users they can take at a time or is it thousands like ed2k servers?

It would be nice to get a lot of peope aware about life after the cap that DC++ offers ... it would also assist in conserving international bandwidth ... If people could get most of the stuff they needed locally then you could spend more bandiwdth looking specifically for stuff not already available through ZAhubs .... thus increasing the variety of stuff to DL on the ZAhubs .... a nice piece of p2p software ...

well, we've been over this before, but DC++ does allow for vast collections of data, through which you can browse.
Entire servers (hubs) dedicated ONLY to certain things, be they specific kinds of music, film, TV, audio, app or game..so you can find a huge amount of whatever you're keen on - whereas torrents are mostly about 'the newest thing' - which doesn't always mean 'the best thing' :P
I'm into audiobooks, old radio shows, documentaries, asian film etc etc - among other things, so there are entire servers with hundred of users on each, who ALSO like those things, and 90% of the data available is only that stuff.
You find that same specialisation happening for every type of thing you're into, in DC++ Hubs.
Torrents just don't supply a wide enough range of 'material' in my view..

okay, there's a cluster of ibursters from this very forum, at local hub ibust.kicks-ass.net
min share is perhaps 1- 4 gigs of 'stuff' - its small at present, perhaps 10 -20 users, but that's fine, its a new Hub and its growing..speeds can vary but tend to be decent.

and there's another Hub at sahub.kick-ass.net (I think thats the address)
and its 'alt' address is zahub.kicks-ass.net
that ones min share is 40 gigs of 'stuff'.. I dont know too much about that one tho..

To give an idea of the speeds one can get, I managed to send out 4.2gigs day before yesterday in 24 hrs, and from yesterday late afternoon to now 8am-ish, sent out around 1.8gigs thus far. And all in relative peace and quiet. :)

Cant connect to local hub???
either of them
just says d/l public hub list.... then chills
???
what am i doing wrong
??
i tried adding and removing http:// from the address

the default hubs all work so it must be an addy or setting problem?!?!?

first off, when you initially fire up dc++. it does ask you to d/l the general public servers list..
however, to join a specific hub - on the toolbar, go 'View'->favourite Hubs-> then New, then add the - for instance address ibust.kicks-ass.net
then click on it, right click, and from the mousetoolbar menu, click 'connect'

see if that helps.

if you still cant connect, try changing your settings in options, to 'passive' and see if you get in..
alternatively - try connect with the port info at end of address - so it looks like this: ibust.kicks-ass.net:80
.
to view the wide range of international public servers, you d/l the pub servers list (on toolbar, View - Public Hubs -> 'refresh'

but for connecting to specific addresses, the route above ought to get you in..

www.hublist.org
just search blank for south africa,
you will list all local hubs.

Get the address and paste into dc++ -->FILE-->QUICK CONNECT

and bam!

I am new to DSL and i hate this blady cap,Is there a way to D/L from an local server?
I see you guys talk about D/L from DC++. Please help me ,My cap is bust!
