The church is on fire with reports of an explosion. More on news24.com

To my knowledge it has strong American ties? Any link to the recent warnings I wonder.

I came here to check if anyone knows what caused the fire. Instead the whole thread is full of sarcasm. :(

I heard something about a gas explosion... but regardless at the end of the day this just means the congregation are going to have to dig deeper into their own pockets to fund a rebuild.

Until everything is confirmed it's all speculation but there are bigger and more important Christian religious sites to target before this monstrosity.
 
We all know how much Christians love to eat. Maybe someone left the gas untapped and boom... Terrorist would hit that on a Sunday morning for their claim to fame... So let's go easy with the terrorist links. And could very well be some of the disgruntled ANC members who are spitting fire at the moment in Durban.
 
Well Durban is like a war zone at the moment even the SAPS is spread thin on the ground. Fires, looting and arson all over. So yeah, not that hard to start pointing fingers.
 
'My home burnt down' - Congregant of Jesus Dome church

Durban – A fire at the Durban Christian Centre (DCC) Jesus Dome has been extinguished, emergency management services confirmed on Tuesday night.

The church which is on the N3 in Durban went up in flames a short while ago.

“The structure is still smouldering with hot spots. Firefighters are damping down. The structure is still very hot,” said EMS spokesperson Robert McKenzie.

McKenzie said they were monitoring the situation in case they received calls from residents in the area suffering from breathing difficulties due to smoke inhalation.

A member of the church, Christopher O'Grady told News24 that he left the church 45 minutes before it was engulfed in flames.

“I have mixed feelings about what happened because it is my home burning down. It is my church,” he said.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Willis Mchunu also expressed sadness at the news that a large portion of the church had burnt down.

“We have a programme of provincial government where we work with religious leaders. The Durban Christian Centre (DCC) has always been central in our efforts to promote social cohesion ...,” Mchunu’s spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya told News24.

He said the premier will be interacting with all stakeholders including the eThekwini Municipality and the newly appointed MEC for Community Safety and Transport to ascertain what had happened.

“Institutions such as the DCC must be protected at all times,” he said.

No injuries have been reported.

Cop knocked down while directing traffic away from Jesus Dome blaze

Durban – A police officer attempting to direct traffic at a fire at the Durban Christian Centre (DCC) Jesus Dome has been knocked down, paramedics said on Tuesday.

Speaking to News24 from the scene, RescueCare spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the officer was knocked down by passing traffic.

“He is stable at the moment,” Jamieson said.

The Jesus Dome, a prominent structure located along the N3 on Garth Road caught fire earlier.

Jamieson previously told News24 that firemen managed to get into the structure as they attempted to douse the flames.

No injuries were reported.

Not sure if that chop knows what mixed feelings are....either that or he started the fire
 
A report doing the rounds reckons faulty wiring on a camera caused the damage as witnessed by someone locking up.

Who sees this and doesn't report it? I too now have mixed feelings.
 
I used to admire how smart this church was everytime we drove pass. What a shocker!
