Hi i use dvd shrink, it copies the dvd files to the pc fine, i can watch the files on the pc not a problem. I use Nero 8 to burn to disc and then put in divx dvd player and it starts from the middle of the movie. I can play the disc on the pc no problems. please let me know what i can do to fix this!!!

Sounds like maybe your DVD player needs updated codecs maybe? DVD Shrink just shrinks a 9GB DL DVD to a 4GB version, so did you burn an actual DVD and watch it or did you convert it to XviD and watch it on your player?

DVD Ripping and Back-up...

Check out this all in one solution...

Free DVD Backup Software...

1) To make a backup of a DVD to another DVD...
Install this program first... it will remove the copy protection and macrovision while you decrypt... (and will also allow you to watch region protected discs in the future)...
http://www.dvd43.com/
When you have that installed, then use DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD to your hard drive...

Once you have it ripped to your hard drive, use DVD shrink to make the image smaller and turn it into an ISO file that I can fit onto one DVD... Note: you have to select ISO image as the target file from the drop down menu.

Once you have the ISO image you can use this program to burn it back to a DVD...

2) To Rip a DVD to an AVI file...
The free version of this program can rip any DVD to a 700 Mb AVI (XVid) File...

3) To turn video files back into a DVD...

as far as i know we're shrinking the dvd...the dvd won't work in a normal dvd player. perhaps im burning it incorrectly on nero, am burning it as a data dvd, is that correct?

i also think its the dvd player that has the wrong codecs (maybe outdated), try the dvd on another player...

...otherwise follow gary's options, as its all and way, way more than you need

i am currently using clonedvd with no issues, and dvdshrink as my backup (if needs be)

nah, i've used dvdshrink a lot before and it ran on my old std dvd player which had no codecs

If you're shrinking the DVD then it should work in any ordinary DVD player. I don't get what you're saying. Why won't it work on a normal DVD player? I think you may be a little confused. Are you burning DVD files or AVI files? Burning DVD files means you need to choose the option in Nero to burn DVD-video files to disk, and not a normal data DVD. If you're burning XviD/DivX files, then you can just burn a normal data DVD.

ja, I don't think it is a codec problem. If the player says it can play DVDs then it should be able to. BTW, a DVD is NOT the same as a DATA DVD disc. That might be part of your problem.

Rather use DVD Shrink to create the ISO image for you (choose from the drop down list when you hit "Backup").

Then burn that ISO image using Nero or ImgBurn.
