DDR 3 Ram 2GB or 4GB?

Good day

So recently I saw online that Ram (DDR 3 1333) is cheaper..

it's about like R150.. (more or less)

And the 4GB is about R400-eish...

so I was thinking, if I were to get more ram for my PC... What should I get?

I have a H55M mobo, currently running on 4GB DDR 3 (1333) ram (2x 2GB)

So should I get the 2GB or the 4GB?

A good copy of Win7 can chow about 1.2 - 1.5 GB alone, so I'd go with 4GB if possible. Just remember you will need 64 bit Windows to make use of more than 3.75GB of RAM :)
 
There's no point in going for 2GB DDR3. Rather just get another 2x 2GB.

Please just take note that you'll require a 64-bit OS to make use of more than 4GB!

You should be able to get 2x 2GB DDR3 1333MHz for under R300 - eg. http://www.takealot.com/electronics...alue-select-ddr3-1333-mhz-2-x-2gb-kit,6864425
Please just make sure that the memory that you're getting has the same latencies, speed and voltage than your 2 current modules!

Yeah, on my task manager, it shows that I have used 2.09GB.. (Probably with programs running in background)

But yes, I do have Win 7 x64 thanks for the warning anyway :)

SO you saying that I should get a 4GB not a 2GB stick?

O see.. mm.. Yeah.. I was planning to get This one (well two of them actually, so I'll end up having 8GB or maybe just 2GB so 6GB in total.. :P

Um.. How do I check all of that?

And cause one of my ram is trancent (came with PC) and the other one is Kingston.. (Which i bought..)

So .. um.. yeah.. how do I tell the different stats?

Like I said, I do have win 7 x64

But I checked now, it says I have 4GB ram, but only 3.87GB usable.. now.. I thought if it's x64, they will give you FULL 4GB, unlike x86/32 mmm... But I think (maybe) they will only give you full ram, if you go OVER 4GB?

You're more than welcome to go for that 2GB module, but I would suggest that you get two of them, so that you end up with 8GB of RAM.

Just double-check that the current RAM that you have is also DDR3 1333MHz, 1.5V, CL9.

You can use the SPD tab within CPU-z (that you have to download from CPUID) to get all the RAM info.
Normally you'll find the RAM model number on a sticker on the RAM modules, but not always the voltage, latencies and speed.

Oh.. well I can have 2x2Gb and then 2x4Gb.. or something like that..

But then I thought maybe it would be better for them all to have the same size.. :)
 
Well, 2x 4GB would be better, but then you'll have to sell your current 2x 2GB modules.

4x 2GB should work without any problems if you've picked modules with the same latency, voltage and speed.
 
Yeah, thanks~ BUt I just want to know how to check that out..

I downloaded the CPU-z

And went to SPD..

I saw the Voltage was 1.5v

And didn't see speed and latency

but then I say something else that different..
That was the Max Bandwidth: One say PC3-10700 and the other PC3-10700H but both is on 667MHz..

Is that normal?



Oh and some of the numbers on the timing table is different.. so is that normal as well?

And the frequency.. Is that all normal?

DDR stands for Double Data Rate, so if you multiply 667MHz by 2 you'll get at ~1333MHz ;)

Look at the right-most column for the CAS# Latency value. It would most likely be on 9

SO does that mean I can just a normal stick of RAM from the shops? ANd it will work?

I think the VRAM using the balance of the RAM--shared graphics card.
 
Esquire was running a special for Kingston 4GB DDR3 1333MHz modules for R179 ex vat. Think its still on.
 
/minor thread hijack

I have the following Mobo ASUS P5G41C-M LX

Would like to go 8GB here, thing is on the compatibility list (i feel maybe outdated) is confusing at times. What would be the ideal ram to get in the 4GB module range taking this info from the site into consideration

2 x DIMM, Max. 8 GB, DDR3 1333(O.C.)/1066/800 Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory
