Firstly. I'm not one to judge if it's worth it or not... Being an AMD guy (Mostly 'cos I can't afford an i7 system).
Secondly. If you match up the RAM to the colours of the slots on the motherboard, you're running in triple channel.

For example: If your motherboard has 3 blue slots and 3 yellow slots: 3 x 1GB would go in blue/yellow and then 3 x 2GB would go in the other colour.

Playing Solitaire!!

Only joking, if you can get it to work, then enjoy!!!! Some of the latest games will really enjoy the RAM/mobo/processor capability combo.

Plus if you're using it for CAD work, 9GB of DDR3 will get you really good performance in such an application. Oh and yes, gaming will be outstanding.

What would you be doing with 9GB?

Haha.
Well, im running Vista.
The system im running with only 3gigs is a little bit light?
I would get another 3x1gigs but the price difference is not worth it.
I may as well get 6 :)

i read somewer that you do get a performance increase when using 3x2gb with i7..i dont have the link though..but IMO..ther is no use for more than 6gb..you already have i7..

I was running Vista with 2GB... And you say 3GB is too little!

What I'm saying is that considering the specs of the machine that I'm running, 3 gigs is a small amount :)
According to the task manager im using around 1.53 with firefox+winamp and msn running :O

If you're running Vista 32, then anything over 4GB is a waste of time as it won't be used.

If you're running Vista 64, it will be used.

Just about to mention it... 32 bit can only utilize like 3.25 GB of RAM :(

He's running 64-bit as can be seen in his sig.

Ya the extra RAM will help - for certain things like heavy media editing - 3d rendering, photoshop, video, and general multitasking. Also it's great for running Virtual machines...You'll basically never have to page out to the HDD. It also helps future-proof your setup.

As for gaming, well even Crysis Warhead only uses 2gigs, so no real boost there.

The only one that read the sig hehe.

Well like I said. if I alt tab to the desktop in Sims 3, 2.59gigs of ram is being used...

I just need to know basically if it is going to be funny with two different types of ram, 1 gigs and 2gigs. It shouldn't be a problem though :)

tripple channel allright - but only up till the first gig of each, isn't it ?

would still be enough though...

So should it be run with the 2gig stick first or the 1 gig sticks first?
As in 2 1 - 2 1 - 2 1 Or 1 2 -1 2 - 1 2

well i dunno how the new mobo's work, but on old dual channel.. the stick closest to the Cpu, would be the speed all the ram is run at ? might be wrong though

Don't think so...it would normally run at the lowest speed, so say u have 1 gig 667 and 1 gig 800, it will run at 667 regardless of where the ram are put.

No, everything should run in triple channel, it's like triple channel 3x3gb.
