So i purchased DDR3 1600, and when i go into the bios it's default value is 1333. I have the Asus p8z77-v motherboard. I noticed i can set the DDR3 manually to 1600, but then my cpu automatically overclocks itself, not high, maybe like 20-30 htz, however that is irritating considering i wanted to start playing around with the overclocking when everything was set at it's base value.

What CPU do you have?

If you just change the RAM multiplier, it shouldn't change the CPU speed at all - or at least it didn't with the previous generation Internet chipsets that I've worked with.

It is also important to use the correct CL values with the RAM and not just the frequency/speed.

You need to activate XMP (Extreme Memory Profile) to get the memory to run at
DDR3 1600 (its rated performance) without impacting other components.

It's just important that the RAM you use is ~1.5V. 1.65V Ram is incompatible with
Sandy/Ivy Bridge.

I did not change the ram multiplier, I just went under the ram and selected ddr3-1600. After I selected that, then it changed th cpu. It was sert to auto, but sets it automatically to 1333, and yes, the ram is compliant with 1155 socket cpu. I have the i5 3570k

As I said before: Enable XMP in the bios and all should be sorted. It works with the MSI Z77A-G43, so there's no reason why it won't work for an ASUS Z77 board.

Set it to XMP. Still sitting at 3422 clock speed and bclk is @ 100 still.
