Former president FW de Klerk on Thursday said he was honoured that the City of Cape Town's naming committee had recommended changing Table Bay Boulevard to his name.

"I would, however, like to stress that this is not an honour that I sought -- since in my heart I am not at all sure that, with one or two exceptions, geographic locations should be renamed in honour of living people," De Klerk said in a statement sent through his foundation.

"I would nevertheless be prepared to accept the honour -- not on my own behalf but on behalf of all those who supported my efforts while I was president to negotiate a new non-racial constitutional democracy for all our people," he said.

Watch, this is going to result in a massive pooh flinging session... :D

So what is it going to be now?De Klerk Boulavard? Go for it, very interested to see what happens...as Gary said..

What?

Was there a Mr Table Bay who took part in the murder of Steve Biko?

What possible reason could there be for this?

The recommendation from the City's Naming Committee is in response to a written request on 18 June 2014 to the City's Executive Mayor, Patricia de Lille, and the City Council to rename Table Bay Boulevard - the first section of the N1 freeway from Cape Town - to FW de Klerk Boulevard.

...

This proposal complies with the City's Naming Policy which states that although names of living persons are to be avoided, exceptions can be made for notable people, freemen and ‘citizens who have achieved international recognition of the highest kind'.

Ethics... really Cape Town?

The same thing with the city emblem, deny... deny... ok.

This is just as dumb as any other "renaming". Much more likely to result in poo though.

Since everyone is downplaying the topic.

Name changes are stupid and expensive.

Rather build a new road and voila! you've got something that needs a name.

This ^^

Renaming places holds absolutely no value add.
Rather use the cash to fix roads and do away with e-tolls..... (before Zuma adds to is multi million Rand RDP house).
