Hi,

I heard that you can deactivate your DSTV for a period of less than a month (say 2 weeks) then you only get billed for the active period...

Anyone done this? A friend said he does it when he goes on long holidays...

Cheers
Greg

Good question - I've heard that too - wonder if it's worth it though, media center records everything while I'm away.

You can do this, but they charge you a connection fee of R50, so I would say less than a week and it's not really worth it

At our holiday home we deactivate the card when not there. I think we only pay for the time it is activated and maybe a small monthly fee, not 100% sure though.

This is how it works...

Option 1: You can downgrade from Full DSTV to Compact DSTV, you will be charged less for the time you're on Compact (R200 pro-rate for the period so that would be about R90 for 2weeks instead of the full price of about R210 for 2 weeks)
You will not pay a reconnection fee of R50 and your monthly DSTV bill will drop R120 for the month (R210-R90). You may not upgrade, downgrade, upgrade more than once a month.

Option 2: You can disconnect DSTV entirely for the 2weeks you will pay R0 for the 2weeks but when you reactivate after the 2week period you will pay a reactivation fee of R50 this will still work out cheaper, your DSTV bill for the month will drop R160 for the month (R210-R50)
If you take option 2 and you disconnect, connect more than once they will keep charging you R50 to connect again so if you do this a few times the month your bill will be
