Hey Guys.

I have no idea what else to try in order for me to have a decent ADSL connection. According to Telkom everything is fine with regards to my line and my account. I have tested my router & Wifi receivers on my neighbour's line without any issues. i don't know what else to do...

Currently a 144p video on Youtube stutters to hell and back, Timeout errors are are all over the place and a simple 4mb document takes days to download...

:cry:Help:cry:

I have an uncapped account with Telkom running on a 10 Mbps line.

Some tests i have done:

Any ideas ?

Perhaps Telkom is throttling you? Lots of timeouts. But yet the pingtest shows 0 packet loss. tracerts show in my opinion that your exchange has slight slight congestion. Im sure the more experienced guys can confirm on that one. Local seems ok on the tracerts. With regards to latency mine is more or less the same depending what server i choose. http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3496657597

You are pretty unstable on a 10meg you not even syncing full and your SNR is 6.4 that might be the cause of the instability on your line, aswell as the attenuation is pretty high too. Have you tried another ISP? and also maybe you should try downgrade to a 4meg and see what it does for you?

Edit: Why is your 1st hop so high it should be on 1ms. are you connecting with a PPPoE Relay? i know my netgear does that when i connect via PPPoE

Noise Margin is on the brink of disconnecting.

10Meg has a uplink of 1024? Since when? I thought all speeds were capped at 512 Uplink.

Have you done the reverse of the modem test, tested your neighbors modem on your line, unless it's the same modem, in which case I would suggest you borrow a modem somewhere and test again.

Edit: You can also try and look around on the modem and force it to use G.DMT instead of ADSL2+.

Mine also my uplink is at 1023. For ADSL i think they take 10% of your downstream for your uplink so 4meg = 512 10meg = 1meg 20meg = 2meg etc...

Errrmmmmm. Say what? Sorry, im a total idiot when it comes to these things. Will have to check...

Just edited my post, look on the modem where you can force G.DMT instead of ADSL2+, your SNR should increase.

Netgears allow for it to be auto. So i guess it just selects the most stable method. but yea try what Soul Assassin said :)

Your SNR is poor but doesn't seem to be the cause of the troubles you're having. Irrespective, with that SNR (noise margin) you'd be better off on 8Mb - Telkom can do this for you over the phone but you'll need to do a port reset for the new profile to activate properly on your end.

Here's what I would do if I were you:

1) test another ISP - if you'd like an account to test then PM me
2) if the new ISP results are similar, then you can rule out the ISP as the issue
3) call Telkom and have them do a port reset for you
4) Stay on the phone with Telkom when they do this - if it resolves the issues, then great, if not, ask them to downgrade your profile to 8Mb
5) If all else fails, it very well might be the router packing up. If you have another router, test with it at any of the above stages
6) another thing to check is for noise on your Telkom phone line, again something you can test at any of the above stages. If the line is noisy, then you have a physical line fault that needs to be reported to Telkom. Report the noise on the line to the telephone department, not the DSL technical support for quicker resolution.

Hope this helps, and PM me if you'd like some help...

Awesome, thanks DJ. Will do.:D

Noise is now 6,9. Its now only syncing at 8 Mbps.

G.DMT only support up to 8mbps, this is only to test if anything changes.

If it stays the same, switch back to auto, go to the Afrihost website and sign up for the free 1GB account and run tests using that, more than likely a ISP issue.

Connect to the router via Ethernet so that you can rule out the wireless connection as the possible cause for the poor download speed.

If that does not solve the problem, then my money is on the ISP as the guilty party.

You can also get a free 1GB account from WebAfrica if that helps you with your testing.

I connected via Ethernet with no difference.

In the meantime i got hold of a Afrihost 1GB account and repeated the tests again this morning. No joy. Nothing changed. So the ISP is not the issue here.

So its then either the exchange, cables or my router...

Sigh!

I have a really good feeling its your exchange. I really suggest try going down to a 6meg or 4meg If that doesnt help then your exchange has issues.
