Dead S4 , Kies , Simm and Retrieve?

Quick One Boffins?

HO has an S4 , I have an S4...

Her phone, just broke, not coming on....blah!Blah! She getting a new phone later in the day, lamenting about all her lost contacts..... and stuff...

I want to download Kies, Take my sim out, put her sim in my phone(not to call on), access all her data to backup on my pc and then when she get's her new phone and new Sim, transfer alles terug! Will this work?

If she had her Google account backing up to Google, everything will download once the same account is entered during setup.

Only for contacts on her sim so not likely

Tell her to check if her contacts are not stored in Google (gmail) or Samsung account.

Her SIM will probably be empty. Google will store the contact, if set. Google Photos will have photos and videos, if previously setup.

SMS, texts will be lost unless already backed up.

Firstly, Thanks for the prompt response...

Secondly, I think it is more a case of retrieving her contacts above anything else.....

SMS and messages she can forgo.....

If she backed up with Samsung also, then the wallpapers and some other stuff would've also gone there. Google will hold her address book though and apps etc. Sims these days don't have to / don't carry the contacts at all

Google will hold what ever you asked it to (App Data, Calendar, Chrome, Contacts, Gmail, Google Fit Data, People details). If I remember once you log on with a new device it asks to install apps from Play. Sync to get all the data back.

SIM contacts are useless unless (i.e. one entry per contact) Back in the good old days you had, maybe, 50 contacts and each had one number. Saving them on the SIM allowed you to move the SIM from phone to phone.

Her contacts are probably on Google, phones don't by default save them to Sims anymore

Tell us about the phone not powering on - like black screen and no action whatsoever?
Home + volume for 10 sec while powering on? (Or whatever it is for the S4?)

I check once a week that Android and in fact successfully run a sync to Google, WhatsApp and Telegram (see Accounts under System Settings). There have been occasions where a sync has failed one or more items.

Log into GMail via the computer and check in contacts.

Sorry for the late response.....

All I know was her cell did'nt work no more.....

I put her sim in my phone.... exported all her 166 contacts off her sim onto my pc... using Kies 2.3 ,

The plugged her new sim (MTC did a sim swap) into her new A4 and reimported all her contacts.... Only hiccup, The A4 does not work iwth Kies 2.3 , so I downloaded Kies 3 ..... Only to be told I needed to Use Smart Switch.... which I did, with no problem.....
