Whenever I have had my car serviced at a dealership, I have supplied my own oil and filters, and insisted that they only do what is absolutely necessary, as I look after everything else, and I also insist on them showing me what they are charging me per hour unit.
If they know that you will not have the wool pulled over your eyes, you tend to stand a better chance of not getting ripped off.
I also book services when I can sit and wait for the car, so I cannot be charged for 3 hours when I have sat there for less than one - it also helps to get to know the Service Manager beforehand, and then you would be amazed at how smoothly things can run!
