Dealing with confrontation

Have you contacted your local Rental Housing Tribunal?

Agreed, but it puts you in a bad light, legally speaking...

You can deposit the last month's rent into your lawyers account with a signed letter stating you have full intent on paying the rent, depending on the outcome of the final meeting and inspection of the property. Also state in the letter your reasons for this, as in being threatened with witholding of your deposit.

I like this idea, very nice.

this sounds like a great plan

Not yet, waiting to see what happens when we leave then go to Housing Tribunal/ Small Claims Court

Did you have a documented inspection done with yourself and the landlord prior to moving in? If not then he has no legal right to claim any damages. This inspections should have been agreed by both parties upfront or else he can not prove damages.

Withholding rent is not a legal option but if no inspection was done then you have nothing to worry about

Nope, as I mentioned he failed to do the initial inspection. However he is somewhat imbalanced so who knows what he will try

Update for anyone interested. Sent the letter with the lawyers advice on Monday. Never heard anything from the landlord. Moved out Tuesday and went to do final inspection on Wednesday. Took 10 minutes and received my full deposit back. Not a word was mentioned about the microwave.

A bit anticlimactic but I am very happy
