Hi guys, looking through the forums, I always notice how we all get stuck on the phone with Telkom.
Thing is, like they say, if you want something done right, do it yourself...
What I have learned from experience, and by experience I mean, I've dealt with them so much that I sort of have an understanding how their system works.
- Insist on service/answer. The operator cannot hang up on you, especially if you asked for their name at the beginning of a call.
- When they say they will do something, ask what the next step is going to be. If it sounds dodgy, insist they do something else, log another complaint or ask to speak to a different operator.
- Always ask when you can expect an answer.
- Phone diferent deparments with the same complaint, often these dumb operators say they will sort it out just to get you off the line, and three days later you realise nothing has been done.
- Keep phoning back... and again.... and again.... and again...

This way you will get the service you require, trust me it works every time.
All it takes is patience and an ear harness for your phone (helps to have a speakerphone so you can have your hands free to get on with your work while you wait)
It's like dealing with a child, no use you get irritated and frustated, as they do not actually know better. Do the thinking for them and tell them what to do..

Oh and BTW ..... TELKOM SUX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You say they can't hang up on you? Funny thing is they always hang up one me, and when I ask to speak to the same slime ball again, he doesn't even exist !!! nothing else than wtf?

I havn't tried that yet... but thanks for the tips. One thing I have learned in South-africa is definitly to have patiants for about everything.

to wait for orders, delivery times, to fix problems. so use to wait so long it's actually a kool know how too to have...

phone while watching a movie at home/on pc etc.. that way when you have to wait its not as painful ;)

Teraside, that is why you have to take the operators name, even ask for his employee number, and if beforehand you are expecting that your conversation will lead to him hanging up, just remind them that the call is being recorded. Then if they hang up, you report their ass....

Well now you made it a bit more clear ;) I never even knew lice had employee numbers :D Thanks for the effort Jack, I don't mean to crash your thread.

Wanna know something funny? I have heard telkom say "we'll call you back" 1000 times. I'm still waiting for the day when i receive 1 phonecall from them.

Maybe no one at telkom knows how to dial out?

They don't call back, 'We will call you' actually means call us back later in Telkom-speak...

Well Jack,

I phoned yesterday, after being disconnected for the 10th time this weekend and phoned about 4 times, everytime someone picks up they say their name and hang up the phone, so the last guy said his name and I said, what's your employee ID number? He said, sorry sir, I'm not allowed to give you that information, it turned out he was a good chap, very helpful, he had someone phone me back within 10 minutes, the problem wasn't fixed, but it definitely did something. So lollies to that :D

erm... did you read what he said? if you ask who it is you are speaking to ( jhonny walker :p )
if they hang up on you nail them. and they dont want to get into shyt so they wont. ( mind you sometimes you do get cut by accedent )

the employee number is called there salary ref: its usually 7 digits. and if u ask they are allowed to give it and u are allowed to know.
BUT!
and this is a round juicy but
operators hates a smart @ss. if you have there salary ref and name. they will do exactly what telkom wants them to do and not go the extra mile for you.
ie. no 3rd party routers. no networking ( more than 1 comp connected classifies ) no call out ( we not outbound and are not supposed to make outgoing calls ) we will only deal with your internet issue slow ping? wont help. as a matter of fact we will get u connected with the guest account and send you off ( cos then u can connect and its not our problem. )

u might be thinking thats not service but thats telkom. all the little things agents do for you is out there good will. telkom doesnt want them to help you with little issues and networking things like that. as a mater of fact. they want agents to finish a call in 8min on average

Thanks goes to Gangstarr for that juicy bit of information... ;)

Will keep this information definitely in mind... it'll come in handy sooner or later.

That straffic cam site's only cam working is the one on vodacom.. hrm maybe it should be pointing in the other direction? i wonder if it tunrs in the afternoon.

Now that is something very interesting...
I have to admit, the support guys at 0800 375 375 are normally very helpful....
