I have a Deawoo Nubira 1.6SX 1999. The tappets have been rattling and I wanted to know does anybody have a idea how to set them and are the manual or hydraulic. If you can suggest a service center that won't rip me off that too will be helpful.

P.S. I am in Cape Town:D

AFAIK your car has hydraulic valve lifters - they are not adjustable, and if they're noisy it's most likely due to low oil pressure or they are worn.

When last was the car serviced - oil and oil filter changed ?

MUCH respect yes the oil was non existent i topped up and the annoying sound has vanished DANKIE BAIE:D

Daewoo isn't in this country anymore, so you'll struggle to get it serviced.

Glad it was a quick fix!

Village boy :D

Daewoo are sold under the Chev badge now, so he/she should be able to get support from them.
The Daewoo Matiz is now sold as the Chev Spark.

It's relevant because if you're a female and you actually know what tappets are, I'm impressed.

My team leader studied mechanical engineering and she's a chick - can't change a wheel to save her life though :p

And I'm pretty sure bex.cpt is a guy ;)

LoL :D I saw the error of my ways and edited accordingly - lucky I was fast enough - as your quotation of my post shows :D

Jirrrre... Running a car without oil... To the point that it makes noises... I reckon your engine doesn't have much life left now.

Not necessarily - tappets can get noisy even with relatively little oil loss.
