So I received an SMS from Credit Intel for the first time ever last week, stating that I have been handed over by National Health Labs for R1900. I had absolutely no idea why. I then made contact with Credit Intel to request why. They then sent me invoices from the NHLS from an invoice from 2019 (I've never seen this invoice in my life) this was from tests done through NHLS by a government hospital. I was not once informed that I would be charged for testing. The invoice was for R600 and now the amount I must pay to credit Intel is R1900 due to tracing and sms charges etc since 2019 which I only hear of now or get communication of in April 2022. Credit Intel says I just need to make payment arrangement. This is completely unfair and I was not aware of any of these charges until recently and I reached out to enquire what it is for. Could someone please advise on what I can do, it is really unfair just to be handed over for charges that I was completely unaware of and then just expected to pay and if not pay the charges will just build up.

Have you admitted or acknowledged the debt to them recently? if yes then you are farked. IF not then tell them the debt has been prescribed if 3 years has passed.

Seems like a lot of old debt has been sold off lately. I also received a notice that I had been handed over for a R150 activation fee (Now apparently R1K+) on a Credit Card I took out in 2018 (a card that was never actually activated and never used). I just told them to send me a statement on my usage of the card.

Hard times means lots more of this is happening. Since they can't send me threatening SMS anymore, they're doing it via email now.. on occasion. I just laugh and delete. Before I left, I was being harassed for a Telkom account that was not mine (I was on FTTH since moving to CT in 2016..) LOL. Its not the first time though, during much of my adult life at least three fraudulent Telkom accounts were opened in my name- I was once even billed for a payphone.

Also last I heard, one of the procedures had changed due to a ruling by a judge.. the ruling affects default judgements and burden of proof that the debtor got notice to defend apparently so these charlatans were trying to get in ahead of that.

I have now in April 2022 yes but the invoice is from March 2019 which means it has been more than 3years since I acknowledged the debt (To find out what it was for)

What a stupid mistake to make...
Lesson learnt I hope.
Also be aware that paying this debt to the debt collector is NO GUARANTEE that it will not come up again. Like I said, these people cannot be trusted.. most debt collection companies are owned/run by ex-convicts and rapists and murderers

Isn't it prescribed if its been over 3 years already

Yeah unfortunately once you acknowledge it the "prescription" falls away. You have admitted to owing them and they have the recording. Next time tell them you are not interested in what they are selling and just hang up.

If it's the first you know of this then tell them to f-off as it's prescribed and you will lay a charge of harassment should they contine.

Check credit report if not on there tell them to fly a kite.

If it is on credit report dispute it as prescribed.
