A few of these machines have recently come into my possesion ( in lieu of Free TELKOM shares :D )

Specs --> Here

Pretty interesting !

OK -- now WHERE does one obtain a Tru64 OS ISO ????

These are original genuine machines and were supplied with the OS -- unfortunately now missing ( only Free sandwiches -- NO free LUNCH :D )

Any friendly high end server dudes out there ????? ( That can tell me where to download an ISO )

Depends on the OS that you'd want to use. As mentioned ^^, Windows NT4 supported Alpha. Seems like Debian and Gentoo still have Alpha support.

Waste of time but Linux has DEC Alpha support & probably FreeBSD & NetBSD as well.

Has Telkom offloaded any of their SUN boxes to procurement yet? Would much rather have one of those.

I remember those DEC Alpha 600MHz CPUs. :)
How'd you get them?

NT used to have DEC Alpha as well as MIPS support back in the day. You could probably get that installed if you can find it. Otherwise probably easier to just get some BSD distro.

Let us know the full specs and what they run like. :) I've got a new found interest in old school shtuffs. I was recently looking for some real old machines, couldn't find them, so I put my money into a new PC instead... this week 2 of the darn things show up for sale in the USA fully kitted out and 100% pristine condition. :(

Tru64

Well it seems that HP still support these machines

It appears that they run the latest version of Tru64 ( V5 something )

I do have an old NT4 Server CD -- but who wants to use that when you can use the PROPER OS

"Old but not Cold"

( Almost better than Telkom Shares :D )

Nice way to learn Unix as used in an "Enterprise" setting.

Did I mention they also come with populated SCSI tower racks :D

OK come on guys -- WHERE -- Tru64 Download ?????

I do have a copy of it at home. I'm in no mood for cutting a CD though. Send a machine down and I'll install it for you. :D

Fun Fun Fun

Most of the "fun" is installing something for which you have NO knowledge.

Especially these "complex" machines with all sorts of firmware boot options -- sort of like a CISCO.

Pity the darn Courier is so expensive :D

Send the CD and I will send a 100% working machine -- ( Courier for your account ) :)

You can also run OpenVMS on it. OpenVMS is the other OS it came with pre-installed from the factory.

Would be nicer to learn OpenVMS than another unix/linux flavour.

Do you work in their IT section or did you pick them up from the 'dump' at procurement in mobeni?

Yes -- OpenVMS would be nice -- I first have to get the damn things to boot -- and then install "any" OS initially

Playing can come later -- when I have some sort of idea of what I am doing :D

Nope --

Acquired by a round- about process ;)

But interesting now that you mention a "Dump" at Mobeni.

Will have to find out how to obtain access :) There are still some bits and pieces and spare parts I need.

All the scrapped IT stuff ends up at their procurement section at Mobeni. I must phone them and see what's on offer. Maybe they threw out some of their Sun boxes.

Am still waiting for my connection... was out of town today.
