Decent car for R135k MAX

Hey everybody.

I'm looking at buying a new car. I'm not willing to spend more than R135k on the car, I'm also gonna put a deposit of about R25k.

I was looking at an i20 (2nd hand), Ford Figo TDCI, 2nd hand Fiesta 1.6TDCI or even a Kia Rio.

I'm gonna be driving about 90km a day for work, from OR Thambo to cnr of Katherine and Marlboro rds, so fuel economy will have to be decent. I don't want a Mazda, my mom has one and I hate that PoS, I'm starting to think that the Figo is a bad idea because it is a bit too slow for my liking.

I drive a Corsa Lite 1.4, I get 440km on R600(44-46l) worth of fuel. So I need to offload this Opel.

Thoughts, please?

How much would a second hand Ford Fiesta TDCI cost, and how much motor plan/service plan would it come with? That would probably be my choice - according to WIkipedia, its 1.6L engine is a lot more powerful than the 1.4L engine of the Figo.
 
Don't buy a cheap diesel. The fuel economy 'savings' aren't worth it if you are going to keep it many years and have to repair it.

1L/100km translates into R1350 saving per year per 10 000kms driven. ie: not that much.

So for your 90km per day x 5 x 50 weeks = 22 500km per year to work.

Your saving will be R3037 per year for every 1L/100km fuel saving.

If a diesel gets 5L/100km, a petrol can easily get 7L/100km, so you will be saving less than R6074 per year by buying a diesel.

Rather get the cheaper, petrol version of the same car.

Test drive the suzuki swift as well they are great cars and quite light on fuel as well a demo model should fit in your budget.
 
Honda Jazz? Some nice 2012 Comfort models in your price range if you don't mind the 1.3L (which actually isn't all that bad). You'll save a packet on fuel.

Select years 2012 to 2013.

Look at cars listed with 20 000km to 30 000km. They should be ex-rentals.

Thats how I bought my "new" facelift Ford Figo Ambiente petrol.
 
I can do the calculations on the Petrol vs Diesel if you want for say the Figo or whatever you decide if you want, you will be paying more for the TDCi and it will take a bit of driving before the TDCi starts paying for itself over the initial puchase price.

Also diesels require more frequent services.

If you want a new car in that price range you can also look at the 1.2 Kia Picanto & Hyundai i10 + they should not be really slower then your 1.4 Corsa Lite.

Yeh, was in a similar position and ended up with this, Jazz is a great car and exactly at your price range. PM if you decide to go this route and in JHB

I recently bought a Honda Civic i-Vtec VXi with 40000km on the clock for around that price. In fact I got it for R121k including all on-road charges, but I know the guys at Honda and they gave me a helluva discount. I get a combined consumption of 7.3L/100km at the moment.

Couldn't be happier with the car...
 
2008 honda civic type R. 7.7L/100kms on highways. R140k.

I did have a brainwave though, I can take the Gautrain to work and it will cost me about R2300 a month.
So I'm thinking of dropping my vehicle purchase price down to around R100k, then get a second hand car :)

You could stretch for a used Honda Accord 2.0 or 2.4 (2008-2009)
