Decent P&S for R3k?

We're heading to France next week - and my wife's P&S (Canon SX260) decided to pack-up... are there any decent ones around for about R3k?

I was thinking of getting a Canon Sx620 - but some reviews suggest them quality of photo's won't match today's camera phones (ignoring the zoom).

If you are prepared to up your budget a bit there is the Canon EOS M10 https://www.outdoorphoto.co.za/cameras/Mirrorless-Cameras/canon-eos-m10-mirrorless-camera-15-45mm-ef-m-lens-black?filterBrand=Canon.

This is a bit bulkier than your compact, but the image quality is up there with an entry-level DSLR.

It uses Canon's EF-M range of lenses. However, if you buy the adapter you can use all of their EF/EF-S lenses as well.

Little concerned about this though :
STAMP
At the airport or port, go to the Customs desk and present your completed Tax Free Form, passport, receipts and purchases to get a stamp on your form.
Goods should be kept available for inspection, unused and with the original receipts.

Never seen it being an issue.

If it’s been bought recently and you just used it while being a tourist, it’s fine. I bought an iPhone and used it for weeks before leaving, they didn’t say a thing.

On FNAC, you can see online the availability at each shop if it helps.

Learning french in a few days is not unfeasible.

My EOS-M kit came with the adapter, and the 22mm, but it's pretty much pointless in terms of your upcoming trip.
