Hi all mybb's

I opted for a contract phone today as my current device a Note 2(yes i know it's very old) but it served me faithfully is showing signs of fatigue & has a cracked screen amongst other probs.

The problem now is the decision I have to make between a Huawei G8 VR Gear incl. or P8 which suites my budget just fine, i have done some research on these 2 & both seem so damn similar in specs etc. but which is the better device.

So any info w.r.t which device to go with will be greatly appreciated..

Thanks in advance.

PS: Do apologise for the typo in heading

G8 has bigger screen and a finger print sensor. It has slightly bigger battery but also about 20 grams heavier.

Mostly it will be up to you. They seem similar so just go to the shop and try them out. But I can tell you that if the fingerprint sensor works properly it can be very convenient.

You're already used to bigger screens so the g8 imo would be better suited to you,if they are the same price it's definitely that one.

I'd rather get a Mate 8 or Mate 7, I doubt the G8 will get much support.

Thanks for the replies thus far :)
I wouldn't mind getting the Mate 7/8 but that's a bit out of my price league at this stage :( hence the decision between G8 or P8

What kind of contract are you looking at? What is the budget?

Between those two I'd definitely go G8.

@ pinball wiz I was looking into that option & seriously wouldn't mind a Note 3 but due to cash restraints I'm forced to incur debt. by taking out a contract.
Unless there's a good Samaritan who's willing to strike a legal binding deal with me for their unused Note 3.

Take a contract phone, sell that and buy a Note 3 :p

If that's your financial position that you don't even have the cash for a second hand old note 3 then it's a no brainer, take the P8 at R299 as it's cheaper, you can even get the p8 lite it's a decent enough phone at R200 p/m at either Cell C or Telkom, not sure what deals Vodacom has on that phone.

Just to give you some perspective, cash is never a problem for me and I buy any of the latest phones I want cash even if they are R14k but taking out a high cost contract just ends up costing you more than you expected as most people go out of bundle(the networks know this also as that's how they make big bucks)so I don't' take out expensive contracts that cost more than R250 per month.

So yeah my best advice to you would be take the P8 or even consider a cheaper P8 lite contract,my sister got hers a few weeks back and she upgraded from an s3 and she is quite happy with the P8 lite it's a decent phone with a decent screen.

^ the P8 Lite is definitely something you should consider if you'd like to keep costs down.

I don't think the difference in price between the P8 and the Lite is worth it to be honest. The Lite is excellent value for money

Having had xiaomi mi4 and s4 mini at the same time. I would say overall day to day usage you won't notice much difference but:
Small things like:
Web browsing is so much faster on the mi4 with the snapdragon 801 than 400.
The 1080p screens are awesome.
Everything is more fluid on the 801. Those 1-2 second delays you find on midrange processor are gone.

The processor in P8 and P8 lite is similar to 801, 400 respectively. So we can say that the P8 will be more pleasurable to use than P8 lite.

Otherwise go with P8 lite. I'm a heavy user and notice these things but if all you do is email, call, whatsapp and youtube; P8 lite will do fine.

I just went with a Note 4. More than halved my contract bill. Gave the trusty Note 3 to my wife. Her P7 went to my daughter.
