So been looking to get the best dynamic range version of Albums to make sure I have the best sounding music collection available.
Apparently the Japan releases pre-94 have the best dynamic range to defeat the loudness wars.
Most if not all Remasters released on iTunes/Deezer etc hurt my ears when I listen to them so I went looking for the original masters which to my ears sound better.

Anyway I came across declipped versions of Albums, specifically Metallica - Black, downloaded it and listened and it sounded awesome, much better then the official release.

So researched how they declipped and found out it's software, ran it through some other albums I have that sound terrible and viola, they now sound great.

If you really into your music maybe have a fiddle with declipping, you will not be disappointed.

Yes I realize it cant add whats not there but it does a good job at something.

I'm using Isotope RX7, Perfect declipper and RSA declipper.

You can do it yourself with freeware binaries. Here's what I do:

24bit FLAC (difficulty set to 4), volume correct peak to -89dB, job done

Then I encode to opus vbr at 320kbps which goes on my plex, and a (LAME's default New VBR) 320kbps joint stereo mp3 for my car

:)

I never knew this was even a thing to do and was skeptical at first but damn, you can get some impressive results.

The what now?
What do I get for my Google play subscription?

I think you out of luck on the streaming options, I also used the streaming option for ages, then bought a Sabaj DA2 for iPhone and music sounded better from then onwards.
Was my start to better sounding music, still need better headphones.
Research showed it could get even better and so started getting the Japan release's which was ok but not that much of a leap, just added dynamic range.

Then the declipped and "fiddling" , not too much, but running songs through that filter and suddenly songs I have listened to my whole life now sound different and I'm starting to pick up things that are too soft in the streaming and CD releases.

So been fiddling some more and I must say I'm getting awesome results, Eminem, Metallica even Queen now all sound awesome.

It doesn't work for everything so you have to fiddle then listen.
Definitely voodoo magic here with these VST plugins.
