Hey... If I have the DSTV Compact package, can I put my card into a PVR decoder and still record shows or is that only on a full package?

Yes you can but only if you pay an additional R65.00 per month to GREEDY DSTV for this facility which should be for free !!!!!

You can't put your card in another decoder... They are "married" to decoders they are bought with.

Hmmm, so when i get my own compact package, can i buy a PVR decoder and have them married then? When did this "marrige" happen? Im sure friends of mine take their Smart Cards on holiday with them and put them into the decoders at the hotel/resorts and it works?

i second that its enough u paid for the feautures on the decoder now we must pay subs as well what a load of bull
its not like they even attempt to be fair like R30 for pvr and R35 for extra view like really now!!!

Probably wont work that way. MC will want to deactive old smartcard & activate new one that came with PVR (they are different/upgraded).

Used to be possible in the past, but not anymore.

All decoders you buy now come with a smartcard
Older models do not have married cards. I think the only decoders married to cards are SDPVR, HDPVR, 1110 & 1131

It was alsways like that - You have to -phone or sms them when you arrive at holiday destination.

What MC actually charge you the extra R65 p/m for is multi-channel access, that is more than one tuner able to decode the DSTV signal off a single (or linked) smartcard. For the PVR to record, without disturbing the viewing channel, the 2nd tuner must be activated.

So in essence the PVR (recording) fuctionality is not charged for, but rather the fact that your accessing multiple channels simultaneously. Same situation with Xtraview, you still only pay a single R65 for any multi-channel access whether for PVR or Xtraview or combination of the two. For example I have a SDPVR & HDPVR2P in Xtraview which means I have 5 active tuners for the same R65 p/m.

With a single PVR you should not have to pay R65 extra per month. I don't care for any BS that Multichoice says about "multi-channel access". Representatives from MC haven't been able to prove to me the need for this fee on their own forums. And nobody here will be able to either.

excuse my "noobism" in DSTV here, but to clarify... If i get myself the compact option and tell them i want a Single View PVR Decoder instead of the small compact one so that i can record, they can do that but i will pay R65 extra pm? and obviously more for the decoder...
