Please move to correct thread if posted in the wrong one....

I had TopTV once way way back and still have 2 decoders now been used as paperweights

Before chucking them away, as a project - Is it possible to convert these boxe's into an android box as it already does have a remote and there is a USB port at the back to do something to the firmware, I have no clue what chipset is in this boxes....even if it just play SD it would still be ok or would there be any other purpose these can be applied for

If it's the same as mine then it's a Altech DSD 427.
A quick google search didn't bring up any custom roms for it.

Obviously not, first identity what the actual hardware is, not just a model number of the resold board, then start experimenting.

I wouldn't bother.

Android boxes can be had for peanuts, the amount of work involved in porting to a new board is unfeasible timewise, unless you want to do it for learning purposes.

Thats even assuming you can find the SoC BSP package - most of which typically are older versions of linux, and need lots of patching.

I've done a fair bit of embedded dev, so I like to think I know what I'm talking about :D

Yeah i like playing with gadgets but porting a OS is not something i'd find enjoyable.
Besides that the DSD 427 board only has a 450Mhz CPU 128Gig RAM and 8 or 16mb Flash memory.

Not possible. You'd have to somehow port Android OS to the custom hardware in the decoder, provided that the decoder manufacturer has released the source code for their SoC.

Ok I had a look at the hardware and it is the same model as mentioned. So glad there were inputs raised, thank you ....this will then still be used as paperweights.

You could salvage some of the components, as mentioned.
