Hi guys,

I need some help with decrypting an iphone backup. I am hoping someone here can give me some advice on how to achieve this without buying dodgy software...

I've set the 'password' myself and set it to back up locally (the option to backup without encrypting the files was not available to me), but besides restoring this data back to the iphone that I have to hand in to my employer, I have no idea how to make this stuff accessible again...

Does anyone know how to go about this?

Pretty sure even restoring the backup is going to require the password.

So best you figure out what that was...

Get an old iphone and restore it with the backup. Then backup it without encryption. (or am I missing something)

I'm not trying to crack the encryption... As I mentioned, the password is known as I typed it in myself. No FBI required here.

The option to backup in plaintext was disabled at the time of making the backup, a quick google didn't solve that problem for me, so in the interest of time I just backed it up with encryption.

Unfortunately, I don't have any old iphones handy that I can restore the backup to - in any case I'm after the SQLite db that holds the SMS's, so while I might be able to access them on an old iPhone, ultimately I'd like to be able to query the db on my computer.
