I'm looking at setting up a dedicated game server, our current VM solution just isn't cutting it.

I was recommend Xneelo by our current provider. While their options are good, they only accept debit order monthly payments which is not ideal. I have also looked at Absolute Hosting, they seem to have better prices but specify that its bring your own license, which would add to the cost. (although you pick an OS in the checkout menu which is confusing)

Do you guys have any recommendations for other hosting solutions, or any experiences with the two mentioned above?

I'm new to this stuff, so any tips or things to look out for would be greatly appreciated. The game in particular is not multithreaded, so really I'm looking for an option with a 3.1GHz+ 4 core CPU (don't need more than 4 cores for sure)

Thanks & enjoy your Sunday!

Does this require Windows or can Linux only work out?
On Datakeepers it's a R100 difference:
You can pick if you want to host in Johannesburg or Cape Town.

Other options would include going Azure:
So you'd need to spin up a Linux or MS VM and add disk storage.
Use a free account if you can: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/free/ so you get 12 months R3666 credit.

AWS you'd look at either starting off with Lightsail if you're trying to save some money/unsure what your compute requirements are, or just go straight with an EC2 instance.
AWS includes a bit over a hundred hours of "free" compute in its free tier.

AWS is used to host a lot of the popular games that we all play:
And to get started at little or no cost, depending on your volumes: https://aws.amazon.com/free (It is actually 750 free hours per month.)
Yes, 750 hours on a t2.micro, I was looking at older docs, a bit annoying that Amazon relies on the community to update their docs instead of having employees in charge of sections.

I am pretty sure the first time I used the EC2 free tier about 9 years ago, that page already said 750. I cannot vouch for anything further back. Shrug.
