Hi all,

I've recently purchased a Vertex 3 60GB SSD. My question is whether I should install my OS (Windows 7) directly onto the SSD or should I rather use Smart Response Technology? The PC is primarily used for gaming.

Thanks for your time :)

Having it dedicated for your OS and installing the games that you currently play would be much faster than using the caching tech.

Since you have such a small SSD, you should look into space optimizations such as disabling hibernating, moving the page file, etc.
There should be other ways to also reduce the overall footprint of Windows 7, because mine uses like 20GB if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks Pada :)

The caching option seems appealing as it's quite hassle free, but I'll take your advice and go for the extra speed :)

The caching tech is just much more convenient like you said. You can have a look at benchmarks/reviews on that tech.

If you're going to do the same things over and over again, then the performance of the caching tech is amazing and actually very close to that of running everything off the SSD.

For people who have the hardware to run SRT and don't want the hassle of reinstalling, the cached SSD is the better option by far. While many systems with cache drives come with 20GB SSDs, they run into the issue where once you'd finish reinstalling your apps and everything, you'd need to open and close all the apps you'll use multiple times to get the caching benefits back. 60GB is a much higher limit and you'd easily have no worries with caching benefits. Even using an OCZ Petrol 128GB would yield the same benefits (and that's probably what I'm going to do if I don't want to reinstall everything.
