I've currently got a personal car, personal use etc etc etc I don'y have log book or any other form of records or claiming tax or anything on this car. I simply pay monthly and that's it.

BUT

My next car I'd like to claim whatever I can for it.

How do I do this? Make it business use? Ask work for a car allowance?

Ok the 10 second version...

You can claim back tax for your car if you:

a) Have a travel/car allowance.
b) You actually use the car to perform your duties (getting to work is excluded - ie. You visit 5 clients a day etc)

The value of your car determines how much you can claim against your car allowance (You get taxed a portion of your car allowance on your salary slip).

The best way is to keep a log book of KMs travelled and based on that you can claim back up to the value of your car allowance.

SARS is very very strict these days - Company directors are now personally liable if they issue a car allowance to an officebound person (Yes even if he visits 1 client a week).

If you don't do the mileage dont get a car allowance.
