Deeds Office evicted by Landlord

The landlord of the building where the Jo'burg deeds office is housed, has obtained a court order to evict the deeds office.

THE Johannesburg deeds office will be evicted from its inner-city office building later this month after it failed to come to terms with its landlord, ApexHi Properties, over a lease agreement.

If the eviction goes ahead as planned on November 27, the administration of property deeds and titles in Johannesburg will be thrown into disarray, negatively affecting attorneys, estate agents, banks and property owners.....

The article focuses on the wrong part of the problem.

The problem is the incompetence and lack of planning by the managerial staff at the deeds office. They knew the lease was going to expire, they were well aware of the problem arising and yet, failed to communicate....

The backlog that is going to be created should not be blamed on them being evicted, but on their own incompetence and ineptitude

Especially considering the landlord had to get a court order to force the eviction. The deeds office have obviously not been great tenants or the landlord would have had no problem extending their lease.
