I've got a conundrum, I'd like to make a browser, ie. (not IE) firefox or opera the default browser for one user. I share a pc and unfortunately it is impossible to teach a computer illeterate person that opera and firefox is a browser too, but no, an idiot always says it's hard to use right? So I need IE to be the system default browser, but I need firefox or opera to be my user's default browser.

Running Xp pro.

Start menu --> Set Program Access and Defaults --> Custom (drop down menu). Repeat for each user.

Is it really that simple Highflyer? Have I lost my brain? Am I incapable of thought?

Thanks dude, will try it.

LOL yeah that's it. Or you can go to add/remove programs and "Set program access and defaults" is listed on the left pane there too

Doesn't work, just tried, it makes firefox the default for both users. I logged off and on, don't work.

Booh hoo hoo, it doesn't work, whaaaaaahhhh

Tell them the M$ Internet Exploit has been deleted and they must get used to it. :D

That's the problem !!! I can't, an idiot is an idiot, I can't change them :)

Sorry, kinda off topic.

Is there any way to make MSN messenger open my email inbox in Firefox instead of IE? Or has MS does this on purpose?

Well maby its because you have the application (FF or IE) set to make it self the default browser. In both those apps if you uncheck the option maby then you can configure it.

but this also probably wont work...

Mook: Ive been wondering about the same thing, and of course MS has done this on purpose. How else could they have done it. IE isnt my default browser and most apps open links straight to Opera, but not any MS product. They have monopolies to keep in tact you know.
If anyone kjnows how to change this Id love to know too.

Need to set FF as your default browser to do that.

do what i did...
change the firefox icon to the pretty blue "E" logo for IE, and then install an IE skin on firefox.

Thos experienced *ahem* users wont be able to tell the difference

lol werner, come on capacitor man, give me the real workaround :D

Myadsl forumites have let me down today :) naughty, naughty boys and girls. I went straight to the horse, and this is what he gave me :D

Okay so how about the MSN messenger thing?

Im using Opera (set to default) but it still opens in IE, same thing when I had FF (a long time ago) and it was set to default.

Silly MS.. shurley someone hated them enough to spend thier time making a work around?

Sort of like like telling kids that the beetroot is acually a Jawbreaker that has gone soft. I LOVE IT!

I did that for my parents a while ago.. but I didnt even bother changing the skin, it was just so they would know where to click. The default FF is basically like IE with a different skin.. if a monkey knew how to use IE it could use FF.. seriously, people cant be that stupid can they?
