Is it possible to Have FireFox automatically, choose a download location based on the type of file being downloaded. For Example if I have two folders named ZIP & MP3, how can I get FF to automatically save all files download with a .zip extension saved in the ZIP folder or any file with a .mp3 extension saved in the MP3 folder.

OsX has something called folder actions which you can use to automatically perform tasks like the one you propose.

Rather than trying to make firefox do the job perhaps windows can do it instead? (Microsoft copies most of what Apple does - maybe they've got something similar?)

Thanks, I'll see if there is something similar to folder actions for windows.

I've seen download managers with this type of thing. I can't remember if the extension DownThemAll (DTA) has it or not.

I went to the Authors website/forum and found out that it only works when you right click a link and select "Save link As". I tried it and it worked like that. But the problem is that the websites I need it for don't allow you to right lick the files, I have to click a button to download and then "Download Sort" add-on doesnt work :( .

Wow, doing a search on Google already brings up this page :D

That's the best I could find, otherwise as was suggested earlier maybe a download manager, I do see that in "Free Download Manager" you can setup different download locations depending on filetype. Also consider integrating the FlashGot extension for FireFox and letting that interface with the download manager.

Internet Download Manager does this and integrates with FF. One of the best download managers around too. :D
