Delay forces Ramaphosa to push back Cabinet announcement

South Africans will have to wait a few more days before President Cyril Ramaphosa announces his new Cabinet.

Ramaphosa was inaugurated in Pretoria on Saturday after being elected president at the first sitting of the sixth parliament on Wednesday.

The expectation was that he would announce his Cabinet at the beginning of the new week. But the presidency said on Sunday the announcement would be made later in the week.

According to the Constitution when an election of the National Assembly is held, the cabinet, the deputy president, ministers and deputy ministers remain competent to function until the person elected president assumes office.

This means that there is currently no executive.

He's waiting for the Deputy President-elect to be cleared by the Integrity Commission, which should happen early this week.

Or he has received pushback from various factions - remember one of his intentions is to reduce the number of Ministries as well...

That could be, a bitter pill he must swallow reducing the number of ministers.

No way, remember Mabuza was "Mr Unity" who settled the stalemate of the Nasrec conference between the two factions. The DP position was his reward. Gordhan option would never fly. Don't forget this is still an ANC government.

Sorry, that wasn't clear. I mean the delay is because he wants to keep Gordhan as minister. Don't think he cares about the deputy.

The way the PP sprung this on Gordhan just before the inauguration there simply won't be enough time for him to be cleared. The president won't leave government in limbo for one man.
 
Nobody mentions the timing of the PP release of the rapport. Just before CR must appoint his cabinet. It shows just her partiality. She needs to get out of that position. We have seen the importance of this office the past couple of years and she is tarnishing it.

To be fair on the PP she started investigating Gordhan long ago but he refused to be subjected to her investigation.

It has been mentioned hundreds of times since she released her report, there are a couple of threads about this.

But PP cleared DD now? And now that PG is admonished by PP, is PG appearing going to appear before IC as well? jirre - things are complicated now.

PG will institute legal action.
CR will use that to justify keeping PG as minister of Public Enterprises.

You need someone like PG to get us through the morass.

EFF + PP + State_Capture_Forces vs the rest.

I hope you're right. But the timing is off on this one, even the blind can see it.
