Delivery problems - drivers not knowing intercoms and bells - Takealot, Loot, etc.

Hi fellow members

I have tried to get deliveries many times and have a lot of problems. The drivers either hoot and drive off (but I can't hear their hooting) or they do the 1-second-missed-call and drive off (because who knows these numbers could be a scam call and also it doesn't ring long enough to hear or there is load shedding so it doesn't ring at all). When I managed to speak to some drivers they either don't know what a doorbell is, they have never heard of such things, or they are too cold and refuse to get out the car, or they claim it is not safe to get out the car to ring the bell.

Anyone else having these types of problems? Deliveries are a big problem because it seems the drivers either don't know what a bell is or don't want to use it.

I appreciate that I am blessed to have a home with a bell and that drivers are sometimes really poor and have never owned an flat with an intercom so don't know what it is - but then surely since we are paying for service, the companies using drivers must train the drivers? Especially hooting outside a large complex and then driving off is no good.

What are your views?

Thanks
Lam

Never had these issues.

They happily ring the bell and if that doesn’t work after a minute or so they’ll call me and say they have a delivery.

If I’m not home and it’s a smallish package I open the front gate for them and ask them to throw it in by my front door gate and then when they are gone I close it again and fetch it when I get home.
