:confused: Hi
I am trying to change profiles on the new DEll D620 HSDPA laptop.
as well as finding where to enter the APN.
anyone know?
:confused:

Seems pretty self evident ... open Broadband Card Utility program, go to Edit -> Profile Manager and click on New. There fill in APN name ... for Voda its Internet or InternetVPN depending which one you have activated.

I have a D620 that I got from work, but would like to add the card, but would like to know the cost...

You cant get it for now ... maybe begining of new year. Vodacom/Vodafone have exclusivity for it currently (you have to buy the laptop/card/contract bundle), so Dell SA wont sell it to you (or even give you a price). Obviously you can go for normal external PCMCIA card ... not the same tho.

A comment to keep in mind.
I share a house with a friend.
Both of us have Dell D620s, I have an inbuilt card, he has an external PCMCIA card.
My connection is always much worse than his, we've checked this in Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Strand.
I contacted Vodacom about this, apparently the inbuilt card is more subject to electronic noise interference... I guess it's a simple Signal-to-Noise-Ratio problem.

@Bundy

Dont think Dell UK will ship to SA, & Dell SA wont sell it ATM.

If you want to control the 5505 properly, uninstall the Voda stuff & install the Dell drivers off the Euro Support site. They are basically the native Novatel drivers for the EU740 module = Dell 5505.

@NPrinsloo

I see little signal performance difference between the 5505 & E620. Maybe the internal anntena connector wire has dislodged?

The internal dell card actually shows a better signal than the Option card I have.
On a side note does anyone know how to turn of the VMC dashboards WLAN section it takes over my card every time I open VMC irritating to say the least.

No pesky WiFi control.

I'm confused as to why they take options many ppl use like locking to 3G and disabling WLAN in the software hope they update it because this version sux.

Hi guys,
Just spoke to dell, the D620 comes with the 3G card build in already. But its not approved by ICASA yet so it wont work on the networks.. Thats why it doesnt pick up in the bios, its disabled in the bios. The bios update will be out next year only to enable the build in 3G cards.
:D So anyone got a bios hack or some way to by pass this small block.. Got a few users here that want to use it.
Anyone? :D

D620 on Vodacom or MTN network

This is strange as Vodacom are advertising and selling it with this functionality enabled. Has anyone been able to get this working with their D620 on either Vodacom or MTN?

Fivelza, Arent they just replacing the standard cards with ICASA aproved cards? Else, can you get me a ad or anything like that so i can show this to my boss so we can get the bios update to enable this function in our laptops. Can anyone tell me the exact model they use in the laptops?
I need the proof first before i can get the cake!
Or if you can tell me how to enable this damn thing.. Coz when you enable the 3G in the bios, it still shows no device, but the card is there. Any help?

DA, I just spoke to Dell support, it seems that if the D620's were purchased as part of the package from Vodacom, the card was then included, if not then the 3G card was not included.

Hmmm...you first.... ;) A BIOS update is always scarey...let me know if the BIOS update somehow brings the 3G card to life :D

Dont think it will, bios update is optional, Fixes/Enhancements Thermal control enhancement. But i will install anyways and see.. Is there any drivers for the 3G card thats not vodafone branded? Just standard drivers.
